Ahhh, Spring!

Posted on

It’s that time of year when a young man’s thoughts naturally turn to . . . treehouses!

That’s right, Son#1 is building his own treehouse. It must be hardwired in his DNA – his family tree has all kinds of builders, woodworkers, and architects among the branches. I have to say though, it’s an impressive treehouse –

Notice the slide from the first landing, the custom windows. The inside is equally as impressive –

I believe he has plans for carpet soon, and siding on the outside. Housewarming party to follow!

The Project Begins

A couple of years ago, we bought a lot on the Oregon Coast. We’ve dreamed of having a little place, ever since we honeymooned there 30 years ago. We hired a contractor to put up the walls and the roof, and an excavator for a retaining wall. The rest is strictly a DIY project, with the help of some AMAZING family and friends – thank you Duane, Dale, Wendy, Brad, Sandy, Midge, John, Brianne, Derek, Sean, and Jayce!

Here’s our journey so far –

My Dream Girls

For several years now, I’ve wanted to get some chickens. Just a few, that can roam around the yard, lay a few eggs. These are the breeds I’d like to get:

Barred Rock

Buff Orpington

And of course, my girls would need a fashionable place to stay –

Now, if only I knew someone who could build it for me . . . hmmmmmm.

Welcome to my blog!

Cross another item off my bucket list: start a blog. I love reading other blogs, a lot of my family members have a blog, I have things to share . . . thus, the launching of Buttered Toast on the Beach.

Why Buttered Toast, you may ask?

Back when Son#1 was in middle school, he wanted to start a band and that was the name he came up with. When I asked him why, he replied, “Everyone loves buttered toast!” Makes sense.

So, what will I be posting?

  • Progress on our DIY beach cottage project on the Oregon Coast
  • Training for a 50-mile bike ride to celebrate my 50th birthday
  • Comings and goings of my three 20-something boys
  • My Pinterest obsession!
  • Links to blogs I like
  • Maybe even some interesting recipes

I hope you’ll follow along!
