Worked on the cottage project last weekend
and while we were there, I was reminded of some of the reasons why we love our home-away-from-home:
Grabbing a hot cup of coffee, throwing on your sweatshirt and strolling the empty beach before anyone else is awake. The seagulls walk beside you, scanning the waves for a late breakfast of mussels and crabs, and sometimes you find beach agates
Speaking of breakfast, the Nelscott Café opened 3 years ago with one of the more eclectic and original menus I’ve ever seen. Their sausage gravy is to-die-for, but you might want to try the S’Mores French Toast – gooey marshmallow and melted chocolate between two slices of graham-dipped French toast slices.
The Beach Dog Café
serves up the best bacon I’ve ever eaten – thick, salty, slightly sweet – with eggs, cottage potatoes, and an English muffin that reminded me more of a fluffy biscuit, topped with out-of-this-world homemade jam.
In a few short months, these bushes just outside our door will produce wild blackberries
Old-fashioned saltwater taffy made in small batches and stretched on a 1940s taffy pulling machine
Great shopping – from antiques to Tangers Outlet Mall (and remember, no sales tax in Oregon!)
Stepping back in time when you walk through the doors of the Bijou Theatre. The Bijou Theatre was built in 1937.
You can catch new releases and old favorites here and they boast the best popcorn on the Oregon Coast.
Like microbrews? Try the offerings of the Rusty Truck Brewery at Roadhouse 101, (Hubby liked the Slant 6 Pale Ale) where you can also get great seafood, ribs, pizzas or steaks. While you’re waiting for your entrée, snack on roasted peanuts – there’s always a full bucket of them at your table, and the shells get thrown on the floor.
When can I go back???
